Ballyvarley Take Part In U-12 Hurling Blitz Saturday 17th April
21 April 2010
Ballyvarley U12 Hurlers travelled to Cherryvale Playing Fields to take part in a Blitz on Saturday 17
th
April.
We fielded a side of 13 players who started off well against a skilful Portaferry side.
To most of the spectators amazement, Ballyvarley took the first score with a goal from Liam Conlon. This was closely followed up with a point. Portaferry replied with a goal.
In the second half, Portaferry scored another two goals from close range frees. Ballyvarley replied with a goal from Mark Colgan
Ballyvarley lost the 40 minute match by two points.
Portaferry 3 -0 Ballyvarley 2-1
The second game was a close fought affair between Portaferry and Bredagh which ended in
Portaferry 0-1 Bredagh 0-0
In the last Match, Ballyvarley played a strong Bredagh side who had 13 players all at the under 12 age group.
Ballyvarley started off the first half with a goal and a point.
In the second half, Bredagh applied a lot of pressure. Strong challenges were made on both sides. Unfortunately Ballyvarley’s players saw red and lost their focus on the game. This let Bredagh back into the game and resulted in them scoring three goals and a point. Our boys worked hard to regain a foothold in the match but were unable to convert any more scores.
Bredagh 3-1 Ballyvarley 1-1
Overall Ballyvarley showed that they could compete with the stronger teams in Down. Some skilful hurling was being played and every player showed great determination and tried to win every ball.
It proved to be a most enjoyable spectacle for all spectators and hopefully the team learnt a valuable lesson on discipline.
Team:
Louis Murray, Eoin McConville, Connor McPolin , Paddy McGrath, Mark Colgan, Stephen McKey, Michael McKey, Callum McConville, Joseph Morgan, Nathan Jones, Sean Stewart, Darragh Byrne, Liam Conlon
Next match is a league game away to Ballela Thursday 29
th
April.
