Well deserved victory for Under 12 Hurlers

22 May 2010

Ballyvarley travelled to Liatroim on Thursday 20th May.  It was always expected to be a tough match especially with Liatroim easily beating Warrenpoint and Castlewellan.
Ballyvarley started off strong and won an early penalty. Unfortunately Connor McPolin was unable to convert it.  This did not deter the Ballyvarley boys who kept up the pressure and took scores from Louis Murray, Nathan Jones and Liam Conlon.   Liatroim also replied with 1 goal and 4  points.   Ballyvarley should have added more scores but due to the excellent blocking of Liatroim they were unable to do so.

Half time score   Ballyvarley 3-1    Liatroim  1 - 4

In the middle 20 minute period, both teams gave their younger players a run out.  This was an enjoyable period of hurling with Liatroim taking more scores than Ballyvarley.

In the final period, Liatroim were fired up and piled the pressure on a determined back line of Ballyvarley.  They managed to score 3 goals   and 1  point in this half.  Ballyvarley were not going to let their lead slip easily.  They fought hard for every ball and scored two goals and two points.  Every player on the Ballyvarley team played their part. They all won balls in the air and on the ground and they all defended excellently. There was a lot of good skilful hurling played during the match from both teams.
The game turned out to be tighter than expected with Ballyvarley coming out top with a one point lead.
