Aghaderg U-16 LGFA v Bosco 06/04/25
07 April 2025
With the pitch looking in top class condition and the new scoreboard taking pride of place, the Aghaderg U-16 Girls opened their campaign with a battling win against St. John Bosco.
This was a highly competitive match with no backing down from either team.
From the first throw in Bosco were on the front foot and took the opening scores through hard work and clever passing. Aghaderg eventually got the numbers breaking forward with some great through-the-hands football which was finished to the net with venom by Lauren Meara.
From then the belief grew and the defence came to terms with the Bosco danger players, repeatedly breaking up their attacks and immediately getting the Reds’ running game going. From 5 down the girls went in at the break 2 points up.
The second half started well for the visitors with a well worked play from the throw-in but the Aghaderg belief was there for all to see and the running game from the middle 8 could not be contained. With some relentless defending and effective kick outs as well as an epic display of off-the-shoulder running and clinical finishing, the girls went into an unassailable lead. The starting forwards all made a decisive contribution and the strong bench continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. With seven different scorers, the girls made Bosco work tirelessly but they just could not get on top of the Aghaderg attack.
The ten point victory did not reflect what was a very competitive game with all girls from both teams putting themselves on the line for their club.
This will be a very tough league but if the girls continue as they started today then they will be a tough proposition for every team.
