Under 12 Camogie Blitz . Saturday 31st March 2012 at An Riocht.

Our under 12 Camogs made their 2012 debut on the field of play on Saturday at An Riocht, after their Friday night training programme and Boxercise classes throughout the Winter. The girls played 4 matches in total, winning  against Ballyholland, drawing with Breda and losing to Mayobridge and a very strong Castlewellan team.

From the first game, the girls demonstrated maturing teamwork, with Sarah Malone and Rachel Canniford working together to win and keep possession of the ball. The joint forces of Sarah Bohan, Kayla Lennon and Eimear Conway in the defence line meant Mayobridge had to work hard to get the ball to the goals, where Aine Mc Nulty made huge efforts to keep Mayobridge scores down. After a few position changes and sterling efforts in defence now from Chloe Mc Conville and Caoimhe Macauley, Mayobridge managed to score a point and two goals before the game ended.

In the game against Castlewellan, Aghaderg worked hard to defend against strong opposition. Chloe Mc Conville managed to make two very fine blocks in goals but the strength of the Castlewellan girls proved too much, despite a strong effort at midfield from Sarah Malone, Rachel Canniford and Caitlin Armstrong.

The defeat to Castlewellan did not however dampen the Aghaderg girls’ spirit or resolve. After a welcome lunch break, the girls took on Ballyholland. Kayla Lennon was strong in goals, keeping the ball out of our nets and demonstrating her power with strong, accurate well placed poc outs. Caitlin Armstrong and Emer Mc Nulty were impressive in midfield, winning possession and ensuring the ball kept heading in the right direction. After a fantastic save from Kayla Lennon, the girls were elated when Rachel Canniford sent the sliothar sailing into the back of the net, ensuring our first win of the day.

As most of the other teams headed home, our tenacious team were still hard at it, playing a very determined game against Breda. The teams were well matched, both working hard for a win. Despite an early Breda score , Kayla Lennon continued to perform well in goals. Caitlin Armstrong, Chloe Mc Conville and Eimear Conway worked hard to win possession and distribute the ball. The fearless Sarah Bohan showed her power tackling the ball and Caoimhe Macauley managed to even the score line when she scored a crafty goal towards the end of the match.

The girls are off again on Saturday 14th March to Ballyholland for another Blitz . Best of Luck girls and keep up the hard work.
