Aghaderg U-15/16 Camogs Take Part In Mary Mc Keown Shield.
30 September 2013
Aghaderg U-15/16 Camogs were asked to attend the Mary Mckeown Shield at Newry on Saturday 28th Sept.
This was the first time that Aghaderg had been asked to attend this event. The girls were to play Clan NaGael first. An early goal in the first 2 minutes gave the girls confidence and they won convincingly 3-1 to 2-0.
A wait of 40 minutes until their next match against Mayobridge cost them the match with a referee giving Mayobridge a free when it should have been Aghaderg's free. Mayobridge scored a point and the whilstle blew at the next puck out.
Score Aghaderg 0-1 Mayobridge 0-2.
Aghaderg played Newry Shamrocks final score 5-4 to 0-0.
Clan na gael then played Mayobridge and beat them by a goal. This left it with 3 teams with no outright winner into the final. So a lot was drawn and Mayobridge was picked out to enter the Final.
We had to play Clan na Gael again 5mins each way. Clan na gael struck first with a goal. Aghaderg came back with a point but ran out of time.
Final score Aghaderg 0-1 Clan na gael 1-0.
Clan na Gael won the overall tournament but only in extra time against Mayobridge. The girls were given medals but were bitterly disappointed not to have been in the final. The team played exceptionally well and were unlucky with their scores.
