SUPER REDS TURN ON THE CHAMPIONSHIP STYLE
25 August 2019
A spirited and well
organised Aghaderg senior football team really turned on the style in
this impressive Junior Championship victory over Mitchels in Drumgath.
In a well contested opening quarter Aghaderg’s forwards were in lethal
form and a Niall Lennon goal saw them race into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead.
Mitchels responded with a few well taken points but when Louis Murray
burst through for a goal, Aghaderg found themselves holding a well-deserved
eight point lead. A Mitchel’s goal left the Reds leading 2-7 to 1-5 at
the interval.
The start of the second half saw a Mitchel’s revival and
within ten minutes of the restart the sides were level at 2-7 each.
Aghaderg’s prospects were looking bleak and a brilliant point blank save
from goalkeeper Paul McGrath prevented Mitchels from taking the lead.
That proved to be the turning point and when Aghaderg swept upfield,
Calum Meara struck the games decisive score when he lobbed the
goalkeeper for goal number three.
The impact of players introduced from
the bench and some clever use of the ball saw a confident Aghaderg
dominate the remainder of the game as they added seven further
unanswered points to coast home by ten clear points.
Excellent
performance.
