Aghaderg/Ballyvarley’s three Senior teams are back in action this
weekend and are so looking forward to playing a few games before the
summer is over. The 2020 Season looked like being written off, but our
senior players are celebrating the late reprieve and the opportunity to
go out there and do what they do best, and that is the spirit they will
bring with them in a hectic schedule over the coming weeks. Of course,
everyone wants to win but sometimes it is JUST GREAT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY!
Friday 17th: Aghaderg v Mitchels @ 7.30pm
The
senior footballers are up first, at home to Newry Mitchels. Aghaderg
had the upper hand over the visitors last season beating them twice in
the league and recording a 3-14 to 2-7 success in the Championship. One
tends to forget, however, that these games are always competitive, and a
key feature of the Red’s victories last year was their ability to pick
off some brilliant scores, even against the run of play.
Sunday 19th: Bredagh v Ballyvarley @ 2pm
The
senior hurlers have a tough one, away to Bredagh at Cherryvale. Two
super, high scoring games last season resulted in the spoils being even,
with the Reds losing by one point at Bredagh before recording an
impressive 3-15 to 3-8 victory in Ballyvarley in July.
Monday 20th: Mayobridge v Aghaderg
They
do not come much harder for the Senior Camogs than a visit to
Mayobridge. The keen rivalry between these two clubs has been a feature
of Aghaderg’s return to the ranks of Senior Camogie. Last season they
fought out a tough 2-5 to 2-5 stalemate in Ballyvarley in April but in
the return game in June, everything that could go wrong went wrong for
the Reds and they slumped to their only defeat of the season. Well, we
all know what happened after that, as Aghaderg were spurred on to a
great Championship success and they will be looking for a great
performance on Monday night.
