Date Filed: 13 April 2017

Impressive Start for Aghaderg Senior Camogie Team

An historic night, as our Senior Camogie team fielded in their first league game away to Ben Dearg, one of the stronger teams in the division. The young team did the club proud and only a last minute point from Ben Dearg forced a draw.

Aghaderg opened the game with a point from Sarah Malone and quickly added a second from Eimear Conway, before Katie Canniford added a further two.

Whilst, we had so much of the play in the first 20 minutes, we did not turn this into scores but Rachel Canniford and Claire Convery were dominant in defence.
Two first half goals from Ben Dearg saw them lead by 2 points at half time.

Playing into the stiff breeze in the second half, the midfield pairing of Sinead Brackenbury and Sarah Malone were striving tirelessly, with the forward line of Lucy McAvoy, Clara Priestly and Áine McNulty working hard to restrain the Ben Dearg back line, forcing them into mistakes.

Ben Dearg tagged on a few hard fought points with some fierce tackling from Chloe McConville and Paula Priestley.
Sarah Malone added a further two good scores from frees before Katie Canniford sent a cracker from 40m into the Ben Dearg net and Sinead Brackenbury added a further good point from play.

The final score 2-04 to 1-07.

This was a great performance from everyone on the team and the manager could not have asked for more from his young charges on their first outing.
