Aghaderg 2-11 Longstone 4-8

Aghaderg’s U-13 Footballers learnt a tough lesson last night when they somehow lost a game that they always looked like they were going to win. Longstone took an early lead but Aghaderg gradually took control and, although they squandered several scoring opportunities, they looked comfortable in holding a 1-6 to 1-3 half time lead.

Aghaderg stretched that lead in the second period but Longstone continued plugging away and kept the Reds within reach with much less possession. With so much dominance, it never looked like Aghaderg could possibly lose this one, but the wides kept mounting and the scores completely dried up……..and then it happened! In the closing moments Longstone struck with two goals in a minute, followed by a tasty point, turning this game completely on its head.

Aghaderg could not recover from the double whammy and when the final whistle sounded, they were visibly shell-shocked from this opening defeat.
