Coiste Scór Deisceart an Dúin/ South Down Scór
15 December 2012
Mo Cairde Secretary / Scór Representative
We had a very good South Down Scór na nÓg this year with 15 South Down Clubs participating some with two and three sections each. I thank you for your efforts in keeping our culture alive.
Now it’s the time for the adult version! The rules are the same each participating club or section, eg Football, Camogie, Ladies, Handball, Hurling, must have at least two participants in order to be eligible to compete. If a young person competed in the recent Scór na nÓg he/she is not eligible for Scór Sinsir this year. Competitors must be over 17 years old on 1
st
January 2013 and there is no upper age limit.
Here is the link to the Cultural section on the GAA website - http://www.gaa.ie/about-the-gaa/cultur-agus-gaeilge/scor/ which, hopefully will answer any questions you may have. An online version of the rulebook is also included in the page.
The South Down Final is set for
Sunday 17
th
February 2013
with the County Final the following Sunday. As in previous years we are expecting at least two semi finals before that time – the East Down Final is on Sunday 10
th
February and we will not be arranging anything in South Down for that date. Consequently the provisional dates for the South Down Semi Finals are as follows:
Semi Final 1 – Friday 1
st
February
Semi Final 2 – Friday 8
th
February
Venues still need confirmation and we will communicate these before competition begins – we will strive to allocate clubs to their nearest venue but if a club is entering two or more sections (eg Football, Camogie, etc) and/or if there is an imbalance in numbers of competitors at each venue this may not be possible.
All competitors must be registered members of you club.
Ceili Dances (Rince Foirne) not allowed in this year’s competitions (Junior or Senior) are:
Cross Reel, Trip to the Cottage, 8-Hand Jig
Set Dances (Rince Seit) not allowed in this year’s competitions
(Junior or Senior) are:
Roscommon Lancers, Longford Set, Cavan Reel
Please let me know asap if your club will be competing in the Scór Sinsir 2013 and return the Competitors Registration form. These should be completed and returned on or before Friday 11
th
January in order to give us time to finalise arrangements.
In the meantime, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me – 07720062073 / 02840638237 or by email scorsecretary.south.down@gaa.ie
