Aghaderg 1-8 Glasdrumman 0-7

Aghaderg Senior Footballers made light of a growing injury list to play some eye-catching football as they chalked up their second consecutive victory in a close encounter with Glasdrumman.

Chris McAvoy put the Reds in front in the first minute, but this was always going to be a tough game for the home side and in a very even first half the sides went in level at the interval 0-4 to 0-4.

Aghaderg were well pleased with that opening half but in the second period they moved up a gear and played with a freedom that was enjoyable to watch. Some great running off the ball, controlled passing combinations and a willingness to cover back in defence saw them deservedly ease into a two-point lead with scores from Niall Lennon, Chris McAvoy, and James McGrath. Then just before the water-break Aghaderg produced the score of the match to take a match-winning five-point lead. Another great move from defence to attack saw Conor McGivern receive the ball outside the 21 yard line and the corner forward unleashed a pile-driver that soared into the top corner of the net for a spectacular goal.

The last quarter was all about containment as the Reds limited Glasdrumman to just two points before Chris McAvoy struck over the insurance point for a well-earned victory.

Scorers: Chris McAvoy 0-5, Conor McGivern 1-1, Niall Lennon 0-1, James McGrath 0-1
