Senior footballers claim first win after a run of 2 draws.

Date Filed: 19 May 2023

Our senior footballers treated us to an exciting home win over Bright on a sunny Friday evening.

The team raced into an emphatic lead within the first 20 minutes going 8 points to 2 up. Bright rallied with our lads taking the foot of the gas and we went in with a slightly reduced lead of 10 points to 5.

The second half was very dramatic with Bright determined to make amends for the first half, they managed to overcome the deficit and take a 2 point lead through a wonder overhead kick and another good goal. This was building up to be another draw as we fought back to level the game and traded to lead until the last 5 minutes.

Our lads settled back into their system and began playing the same style as the first half, controlling the ball and creating space which lead to a great goal. We then continued to play calmly and controlled the possession of the ball killing off any threat from Bright.

This was a great result with clear evidence of the lads progressing and developing their game and showing that our system of play is producing results. It was fantastic having the support from our members and our lads appreciated the encouragement.

We are very proud of this team especially considering the amount of injuries and other issues that have prevented us from training and preparing with a full squad. They have epitomised the Aghaderg never say die attitude that is evident in all our teams, especially when we have this period of a reduced squad.

We are looking forward to when we can get the full squad back and continuing to develop all our lads to bring more joy to our club.
